At the base there is a scree consists of detached boulders fall from the ceiling over the years on which later materialized stalagmite concretions. The reddish color with all its different shades typical of concretions in the highest part of the cavern is due to the presence of impurities in the crystals resulting from the ground, which our area is rich in iron oxide (rust) and aluminum (bauxite).
In fact, the “Grotta del Trullo” is located very close to the ground and in the upper part it is separated by a layer of rock of only 1.5 meters. This cave is unique from a geological viewpoint because we do not know that other crystalline concretions present in such small depths.
